WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

MONTH 1

Basic Sewing Alterations

  • Get good practice with the sewing machine, learning all its functions and tricks. You’re welcome to bring your own to learn how to use it.

  • We’ll explore a variety of clothing items to understand how they are constructed and how you can alter them, based on what everyone brings.

  • The focus is on simple but useful techniques: seams, hems, making smaller or bigger, zippers, etc.

MONTH 3

Creative Reconstruction

  • We’ll take apart garments and re-use them for something else. Throughout the course, everyone will be saving all the leftovers, and then make a pile together so everyone can use them.

  • The grand finale involves creating something entirely new from scratch, using what you’ve learned about disassembling, pattern making, and sewing.

MONTH 2

Upcycling with patterns

  • Learn the basics of pattern making to customise and fit to your unique body and style.

  • Use your new pattern-making skills to take upcycling to the next level, transforming the shape and fit..

FOLLOWING MONTHS

Endless Learning

  • There’s no set endpoint to your sewing journey with me. You can keep attending for as long as you'd like. The learning possibilities with sewing and upcycling are endless, and we can always keep exploring new techniques and projects.

To promote an understanding of sustainable fashion by teaching practical upcycling skills, and as a result encouraging a more thoughtful and circular approach to clothing consumption.

Community Building

To create a supportive and collaborative community where participants can share ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, and celebrate their achievements, reinforcing the joy and satisfaction that come from creating something with your own hands
