Who Am I?

I’m Josefina, a fashion designer, upcycling educator, and creative entrepreneur from Uruguay, currently based in Berlin. I like to invent jobs for myself and share my knowledge and way of seeing life — with creativity, redesign, and curiosity.

Built My Life Around Upcycling

I’ve been making my own clothes since I was 15 years old, usually from clothes that were already around me. What started as a teenage hobby slowly became my life’s work and mission: being a designer and creative doesn’t require starting from scratch — it starts with what you already have.

I learnt early on that limitations are not a problem, but a trigger for inspiration.

I don’t belong in the Fashion Industry

I studied fashion, but I never felt identified with high fashion, or commercial trends, anything around the fashion industry or the jobs you’re expected to have in it. The traditional system didn’t reflect my values, my vision, or the kind of life I wanted to live.

Settling for the jobs avaialable was never an option for me, I just couldn’t - I wanted more. I started inventing my own work from 17 years old, always based on what I actually enjoy doing: designing, teaching, experimenting, being my own boss, and constantly learning.

A DIY Mindset

I’m the definition of a DIY person. I’m addicted to learning new skills, tools, and softwares, even more if they’ll make my work and personal life easier. Whether it’s digital tools, new design systems, marketing, or a hack to organising my studio, learning is a huge part of my life. Even my hobby is upcycling furniture…

This is what I also teach, my passion for doing things yourself not just cause it’s practical and cheaper, but also cause it’s so much fun!

Seeing Potential Everywhere

I love redesigning clothes, teaching others how to do it, and showing a different way to live and see the world through the eyes of an upcycler. For me, upcycling is not just a technique — it’s a mindset and way of living.

Everything has potential.

You just need the skills, tools and creativity to give it a twist and turn it into something else with more value and better use for you.

My Adrenaline Rush

I get real adrenaline rush from flea markets, working on a new project, inspiring conversations that spark ideas, solving design problems with the materials I already had, and turning constraints into solutions.

Seeing my students’ reactions when they finish their first project, when they thought they couldn’t.

Reinventing Every Year

I founded my studio/personal brand in 2022, and since then I’ve been inventing and reinventing it every year. I don’t believe in fixed career paths — I believe in practices, and projects that evolve as you evolve internally, and make concsious decisions about the life you want to live.

I shape my work around my values, my curiosity, and my desire for freedom — and I genuinely love every part and every task of it.

My work is about fashion, upcycling, and education — but it’s also about showing that there are many ways to use your skills, build a career, a studio, and a life.

You don’t have to fit into existing systems. You can design one for yourself.

Just like clothes.

If you're down here, thanks for reading 🖤

With love,

Josefina
